Self-Motivation

This week has been really nice for me. I’ve taken the opportunity to relax and enjoy some time away from work, and I’ve even got some thing accomplished. My big concern though is how to stay motivated. I have every desire to want to write and better myself through my writing, but it’s so hard to do. There are distractions everywhere I turn; from websites, to my kids, to stupid iPhone games, I am constantly being taken away from what I know I should be doing.

How do you stay self-motivated?

When I was selling insurance I was, basically, on my own but I was still held accountable for my production by someone who issued be a paycheck. I had an immediate motivation to work hard because it directly affected my pay, and I hate getting chewed out by my boss. I need some good tips and trick that you, my dear readers, may have to help me stay accountable to myself. I find that I am like the dog from “UP”. I lose focus and, although I want this, I’m finding it hard to really put my nose to the grindstone.

So, if anyone has some advice for me I would love to hear it. Leave me a comment or email me. Or whatever. Also, if you read and your not a follower of mine, that’s something you should be motivated to remedy.

  1. Hmm. What's my motivation? It's corny to say, but I'm going to say you guys: my family. For one, without all the antics that play out, I wouldn't have a blog. Secondly, I like to think of my blog as a journal of sorts. Maybe someday when they're teenagers, they'll look back and read about themselves and their childhood. I'm hoping they can see the humor in everything - like we do. I guess that's what keeps me going. Oh, and coffee. Coffee helps quite a bit.
I love you and I think you're blog is great. I look forward to reading it to see what you have to say - what your opinions are on subjects, and how you see your life. It's interesting, and something that I think would be difficult to just bring up in conversation. Your blog is insightful and I love the whole "walking-in-your-shoes" element.
    Keep it up, love.

  2. What are you most motivated to write about? That may play into your motivations to write more often. Is it something you can incorporate into other activities. Before my purse was stuffed with diapers and pacifiers, I used to carry a journal around with me. Anytime I saw something that interested me, I would write down my feelings about it....sounds cheesy, but a lot of great blogs/articles, etc come out of places you never expected them to come out of.

If you are looking to work in a job that let's you write, start doing some freelance stuff. I work as a writer for a marketing company and I started doing freelance stuff for them....places like that are always looking for people they can hire just when they need them, and it's a great place to get your feet wet. Just some thoughts :)

  3. I truly believe that attitude is a choice. I try to get up every morning with a good attitude and positive outlook on what I can accomplish that day - even if it's small. I don't always succeed, but I suppose I manage to give myself a good attitude more days than not. And staying motivated to work at work, or work around the house, or work out, or accomplish whatever it is I've decided I need to accomplish is a heck of a lot easier when I wake up with a positive attitude.

Also, I agree with Stacey - coffee and/or hot tea is a must.
